Kishore Kumar, originally Abhas Kumar Ganguly, was born into a Bengali Brahmin Ganguly family in Khandwa, Central Provinces (now in Madhya Pradesh). His father, Kunjalal Ganguly, was a lawyer, and his mother, Gouri Devi, hailed from a wealthy Bengali background. Kumar was the youngest of four siblings, with his brother Ashok already established as a Hindi cinema actor. Inspired by Ashok, Anoop also entered the film industry with his support.
